Guided Climb of Mangerton Mountain
Mangerton Mountain is a moderate 4 to 5 hour hour (10 km) walking route to the summit of Mangerton (839m) taking in the wonderful Devils Punchbowl lake near the summit and passing the Tooreencormick Battle Field Site near Killarney, County Kerry in the south west of Ireland. It is a relatively gentle climb to the summit and should be no problem to most of reasonable fitness and is one of the most accessible mountains over 800m in Ireland. The walk has spectacular views of the Devil’s Punchbowl, MacGillycuddy’s Reeks, Horses Glen, Killarney National Park and on a good day south west to Kenmare Bay.
What to bring: Rain Jacket/Pants, Walking boots/shoes, Rucksack or appropriate bag for carrying food/clothing, Suitable hiking clothing e.g. fleece, hat, gloves, No cotton t-shirts or jeans as these items will hold water and may accelerate chances of hypothermia, Spare clothes and shoes for after activity, Warm drink and water(1 litre approx), Food e.g. lunch, snacks, etc.
- Participants are encouraged to consider using the sustainable bus transport provided from Festival Base-Camp to the event location. A one-day or weekend bus-pass is available for purchase as an add-on to the event ticket for participants wishing to avail of this bus.
